Jeff Lyons currently resides in Calgary, Canada. He started cartooning comic strips for fun when he was a child (1974), eventually creating cartoons for his high school yearbook and a local town newspaper in Okotoks, Canada. In 1987 Jeff became interested in art and started painting. He experimented with oil, acrylic, pastel, pencil and ink and digital mediums.

In 1995 Jeff began working on surrealism and abstract art oil paintings. He painted strange, unique, playful, yet slightly unsettling images. The paintings were intentionally ambiguous and irrational in nature and aimed to play with the viewers imagination.

Jeffs first public art exhibit was in 1996 in Calgary, Canada. He has shown in over 100 locations since then. A few exhibits were in Halifax as well. He started displaying his paintings online in 1998. Lyonsart.com has been online since 2003.

Inspired by women, Jeff began creating female portraiture paintings in 2001. An playful art series emerged, which later became known as the “girlfriends series”. Jeffs main goal was to create fun, alluring female imagery that attract and interact with the viewer, while incorporating cartoon, pop and slightly cubist art styles. These (mostly fictional) women are representations of individual female beauty and persona.

The ‘girlfriends series’ portraits led to public demand for commissioned custom portrait paintings of ALL people; men, women, children and couples. These fun, stylish, positive and flattering portrayals of people have kept Jeff busy for many years, allowing him to pursue an artist career full time.
