Grow

For the better part of the last year I have been busy with my first large scale public work, a piece that I entitled “Grow”. As the piece exists there are two versions, one using living plants and the other using cut steel plates that have been flocked. I photographed a group of students and used that as source material to create two compositions composed of various individuals. The piece has entirely been covered in green flock and in nine of the fourteen heads there is the possibility of incorporating live plants. The intention of the composition was to reflect a quiet moment in student life. The use of the materials was used to reflect the period of individual and collective growth that takes place at university. Wageningen University is one of the world’s top universities relating to agricultural and earth sciences, the use of plants and green mossy looking flock were chosen to express the university’s dedication to promoting a deeper understanding of our biosphere while educating the environmental stewards of tomorrow.
